I created this sculpture as a working model for a monument commemorating the 100th anniversary of the settlement of Alberta, Canada.

In 1887 settlers arrived in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada area.  They traveled from the Logan, Utah, area in search of fertile land in which they could colonize.

In trying to depict this with a simple statement in bronze, I came up with this piece.

The piece shows the man taking a break from his plowing when his wife and son bring him a drink of water.  They stand looking over the fertile land of southern Alberta feeling pride in their accomplishments and looking forward to the future.
