In the traditional Lakota Sioux way a person regularly goes on a vision quest to seek better vision concerning his life and how he may best serve his people.  It is a time of fasting (usually four days and nights on a lonely hill) coming to know themselves and gaining humility through fervent prayers to the Creator.

Usually the Vision quest is proceeded by a Give Away of all his possessions to the poor of his tribe.

He does all of this that through him, “his people may live.”
